Eileen Heywood, (MA)

Eileen in Marichyasana CMy work life revolves around my dual commitment to teaching yoga and developing and facilitating corporate training programs. For me they are really not different and both continue to develop my skills in understanding people's needs and helping them to connect with and listen to the innate wisdom they hold inside.

I discovered yoga in 1992 and since then have been studying intensely in Brisbane, Byron Bay and Mysore, India. Whilst most of my experience has been with the Dynamic Practice of Astanga Yoga, I am also a certified IYTA teacher, trained in general hatha yoga and relaxation principles.

More recently, Iyengar Yoga has had a increasing impact on my own daily practice and my teaching approach. I am eclectic in nature and see value in drawing insight from a wide range of approaches.

In my role as corporate facilitator, I draw directly on my yoga experience whilst also utilizing other approaches aimed at illuminating individual experiences, competencies and ways of knowing.

I have been working as a corporate facilitator since 1998 and past and current clients include Mellish and Associates, the National Native Title Tribunal, Queensland University of Technology, The Princess Alexandria Hospital, Energex, Gold Coast Health District, the Office of Women and Southern Cross University.

My qualifications include a Master of Arts (Women's Studies) and various training qualifications. I am an accredited Yoga teacher through the International Yoga Teachers Association (IYTA).

Neil Hudson

neil hudson - photoAttended various Sydney and Brisbane yoga classes over 8 years, then worked through the International Yoga Teachers Association Teacher Training Course 1991-92. Although not intending to teach, a series of relief teaching positions over 4 years in Sydney and Wollongong changed my life course from preceding careers in engineering and management (degrees in Chemical Engineering, Economics and Arts). Iyengar classes, and the well-known teachers Simon Borg-Olivier and Acharya Roy were key influences in my continuing training.

Pursued Astanga yoga training under Graham Northfield and Ian Clark 1996-98. Restarted teaching in 1997, including at Yeronga TAFE, Borallon Prison, and Griffith Uni. Now teaching in Graceville, Sunnyback and Mt Gravatt, as well as for Gov’t Departments (through Yoga for Now) and a gym.

Teaching Style:
A melding of IYTA, Astanga and Iyengar influences, with classes varying in pace and content according to conditions and those present. Emphasis is placed on bringing pranayama, pratyahara and dharana (breath control, sensory perception and focus) into the experience of yoga postures and stretches. The 8 limbs of Patanjali form most of the backdrop to my teaching. Virtually all classes are taught as ‘composite’, meaning that beginners may attend any class and all students are asked to be guided by internal  limitations as much as external instructions.

Sara Higgins

sara higgins photoYoga has been a part of my life for over 10 years.  I developed a yoga practice in order to help deal with a health issue.  My passion for yoga grew quickly, its ability to provide a calming and centering space in my life made a great difference in my recovery.

I have been practicing yoga for 10 years now and a teacher for 6 years.  I trained with IYTA and as all teachers do, continue to learn and grow with various wonderful teachers.

I am also a reflexologist and teach reflexology at ACNM in Brisbane.  I find these two therapies very complementary in providing support in managing health.
